Our latest cohort of award winners has returned home after four weeks immersed in the art, history and culture of the Italian Renaissance — an experience their teachers say has already changed how they see their own possibilities.
The students arrived in Florence in early summer, stepping off the train into a city that would be their classroom for the next month. What followed was a daily rhythm of seminars, museum visits and quiet afternoons spent drawing in the piazzas.
Guided by educators working with the Foundation, the cohort moved through the Uffizi, the Duomo and the palazzi that line the Arno — studying proportion, light and perspective in the very places they were invented.
“The experience opened my eyes to a world I had only read about in books.”
As the cohort returns home, the Foundation is already preparing the next season of the High School Renaissance Award — and the next group of students who will make the journey.
