About the Internship
Science as an Open Door
The Columbia System Biology Internship introduces students to hands-on scientific research — pairing them with working laboratories and mentors for the duration of the program.
Who It Is For
The internship is designed for high-school students with a passion for science — particularly those from the schools and communities the Foundation serves.
Program Highlights
What Students Experience
Four threads run through the internship experience.
Laboratory Experience
Students spend their days in the laboratory, learning core techniques in molecular and systems biology under the guidance of working researchers.
Research Mentorship
Each student is mentored by members of the research team, receiving one-on-one guidance throughout the summer.
Seminars & Learning
The experience includes seminars, lab meetings and coursework that connect students to the rhythm of active research.
Real Research Exposure
By the end of the program, students have contributed to ongoing projects and gained firsthand exposure to scientific careers.
